rotorblade airfoils
RotorBlade
Airfoils™ are for use with model Autogyros.
They are laminated of AAA basswood and 8-12 lb. balsa. The basswood
leading edge, which makes up 25% of the chord, aids in chordwise
balancing which is critical for Autogyro rotor system performance.
They are only sold in sets of 4.
The profile of our RotorBlade Airfoils™ is the undercambered
SG6042. Back in February of 2000 Les Garber and Bill Friedlander
performed wind
tunnel tests on several airfoils as applied to model autogyros.
Among the many profiles tested, the SG6042 produced the most lift.
Our customers report that after using our RotorBlade Airfoils™ on
their R/C Autogyros, the flying performance is superior to anything
else they’ve tried. Click here to
read what a few of our happy customers are saying about them.

We offer four chord sizes in our RotorBlade Airfoils™: 1.5”,
2.0”, 2.375” and 2.75”. They are available in various
lengths as listed on our Order page. Our customers purchase our airfoil
stock to make rotor blades. As such, you will need to cut them to
length, make and apply plywood mounting plates, drill the mounting
hole(s), and balance and finish them for your model. Balancing and
finishing tips can be found by clicking here.
RotorBlade Airfoils™ are only sold in sets of 4.
The four RotorBlade Airfoils™ that come in a set are weight-matched.
Each airfoil is weighed and then matched up to make a set. The maximum
weight range of the airfoils in a set for each chord size we offer
is listed below.
